INFONXX Officially Opens Kansas Call Center
Governor Hails Company, Direction and Nearly 1000 New Jobs for Wichita
Wichita, Kansas -- 2/22/2006 -- With the well wishes of elected officials, business and education leaders, and customers, INFONXX officially opened its sixth U.S.-based call center here today. "Moving into a community is a choice. Becoming part of that community takes common goals and interests. It's all about people connecting with people," said Margaret Scholl, INFONXX North America CEO. "And we connected right away with the people of Wichita."
In addition to an evening reception and ribbon cutting, the company marked the official start of operations in the call center facility at a news conference featuring Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
"I'm thrilled to welcome another employer to Wichita," said Sebelius. "We've been experiencing good job growth because our state is an attractive place to do business. Part of the reason for that is the quality of Kansas' workforce, and this is just the latest example of how our talented workers have attracted a new employer to our state."
Governor Sebelius has made job creation and retention top priorities for her administration.
After a nationwide search, INFONXX acquired the former MCI Services building at 8400 East 32nd last fall. The facility was completely remodeled and refitted to upgrade working conditions and communications infrastructure, as well as meet INFONXX's exacting standards.
In addition to its centralized location, Scholl noted the quality of potential employees in Wichita was a deciding factor to establish the call center in the area. "Building on our core strength -- directory assistance -- we are now offering a new series of technologies and services, and we needed to staff our new call center with a ready, willing and able workforce, primed to handle the new challenges."
Currently, the Kansas Call Center has approximately 400 customer service representatives taking calls, and an additional 180 in training. At full staff, the company expects to hire nearly 1000 employees for the 400-seat inbound call center. INFONXX has conducted two job fairs to date, and continues to interview for a number of call center positions. Applications are continuing to be accepted through the company's online Career pages at http://www.infonxx.com/careers.
The Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition (GWEDC) coordinated a package of incentives from the city of Wichita, Sedgwick County and the Kansas Department of Commerce that includes property tax abatements, tax credits and employee training investments.
Scholl added, "Everyone we have talked to and worked with has made us feel very welcome. We are proud to be part of the Wichita community, and look forward to many positive years together."
