New Call Center in Pittsburgh, PA to Hire 88 Workers

Pittsburgh, PC -- Jones Lang La Salle, a large Chicago-based property management firm, said Wednesday it is opening a Pittsburgh call center that will initially create 88 jobs within three years. The company says the new employee number could hit 150 by 2011. It also is expected to retain 70 local jobs in what will be the relocation and consolidation of what is known as its National Property Service Center. The company is moving the center from Atlanta to Pittsburgh, where it already has an office.

New Call Center in Akron, Ohio to Hire 700 Workers

A new company based in Paris, France, has begun operating a call center in downtown Akron, Ohio with plans to employ more than 700 full and part-time employees -- or more than 400 full-time-equivalent jobs. Teleperformance USA, whose parent company is SR Teleperformance Group of Paris, opened for business Monday at 150 E. Market St.

Air Force Announces New Call Center Locations

Washington, DC - Air Force officials announced today the proposed sites for the Air Force Financial Services Center and the Air Force Claims Service Center (AFCSC). These choices resulted from analyzing several competing locations lasting more than eight months, and involved support and coordination from many communities for which the Air Force is very thankful. The merits were considered and the results are as follows.

The preferred location for the AFFSC is Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD, while the preferred location for the AFCSC will be in the Dayton, Ohio, area. The AFFSC is scheduled for activation in Fiscal Year 2008, and the AFCSC is scheduled to open in Fiscal Year 2007.

Move Over, India: Jerusalem Becomes New Call Center Power

Jerusalem, Isreal -- Pacing the floor of his cubicle, a young man in Jerusalem speaks into his headset to an American client named Brandy over 6,000 miles away and convinces her not to terminate her American Online membership. Around him, hundreds of other agents are hustling to find and keep clients at IDT Global Services, Israel's largest call center.

"It is one of the only places outside of the U.S. that you have this type of concentration of highly skilled native" speakers of American English, said Yoel Keren, 34, who immigrated to Israel from Oklahoma and works in the company's AOL department. "That is the edge you cannot get anywhere else."

Commerce Bank Opens Call Center in Harrisburg, PA

HARRISBURG, PA -- Commerce Bank/Harrisburg, the sole banking subsidiary of Pennsylvania Commerce Bancorp Inc. The company specializes in in-bound and out-bound customer service.

Call Center Expansion seen in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines

Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines -- JOB opportunities for at least 400 to 600 workers would be available with the expansion of Link2Support in Cagayan de Oro City, stressed Director of Operations Vigor D. Amador Jr.  During a recent media forum held at their site, Amador said they are actually six months earlier than their planned expansion. "We are happy to note that by June, this year, we will be able to put in place the additional workstations and amenities that would allow our present 600-strong workforce to double by then," he said. The first technical call center in the city, Link2Support Cagayan de Oro is also the first call center in Mindanao that is registered with the Philippine Export Processing Zone (PEZA).

Time Warner Cable opens new call center in Rio Grande Valley

Harlingen, TX -- Fresh off a $65 million cable system upgrade throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Time Warner Cable opened a new in-bound call center in Harlingen. Time Warner Cable expanded its regional headquarters office at 2921 S. Expressway 83 in Harlingen by 5,000 square feet to house the new call center. AT&T puts Pittsburgh Call Center Closing On Hold

Pittsburgh, PA -- Scott Bobak and 225 fellow AT&T workers at the company's customer call center in Pittsburgh still will have a job after Easter, but for how long, nobody knows. AT&T on Friday reversed its decision to close the residential call center by April 21, but the reprieve is only "temporary," Gov. Edward Rendell said yesterday at the company's Strip District office. The governor did not mince words when he told more than 100 AT&T workers that "these types of jobs will eventually be phased out all over the country."
